VAT, withholding tax and Zakat

The return from the books themselves, in ZATCA's box order

The VAT return is built from your documents in the layout of ZATCA's form and reconciled against the VAT accounts, and recording its filing locks its periods; withholding tax on payments to non-residents with its journal and report; and the Zakat base from the balance sheet.

What it does

VAT, withholding tax and Zakat

A return in the form's order

Standard-rated, zero-rated and exempt sales, and taxable purchases — in the box order of ZATCA's form, for any monthly or quarterly period.

Reconciled against the VAT accounts

The return is built from the documents and reconciled against the output and input VAT accounts; any difference is shown rather than hidden.

Filing recorded, periods locked

Record the filing and its periods lock against documents dated inside them, keeping who filed and when.

Tax treatments

15%, zero-rated, exempt and out of scope on every line, with ZATCA's rounding to the halala.

Withholding tax

Flag a supplier as non-resident once; the withholding rate is computed on their payments with its journal, and a monthly report totals what was withheld.

Zakat

A worksheet for the Zakat base from the balance sheet after year-end close, in the items ZATCA asks for, with a report to attach to the filing.

How it flows

From the document to the return

Not one figure is retyped.

  1. Every document carries its treatment

Standard, zero-rated, exempt or out of scope — on every line.

  2. Choose the period

Monthly or quarterly, as you are registered.

  3. Review the differences

Between the return and the VAT accounts, opening any figure to its documents.

  4. File on the ZATCA portal

The same figures, box by box.

  5. Record the filing and the payment

The period locks and the payment posts.

Where it stops today

We write down what we have not built yet, so you do not discover it after subscribing.

  • The reverse-charge mechanism (RCM) for imported services is not supported yet.
  • The return is prepared in the product and filed on the ZATCA portal by hand; there is no electronic submission of the return itself.
  • Zakat is a guidance worksheet built after year-end close; filing is through the ZATCA portal.
Common questions

VAT, withholding tax and Zakat

Does the return include input VAT from supplier bills and expenses?

Yes. Every supplier bill, quick expense and classified bank line carries its input VAT, so it lands in its box reconciled against the input VAT account.

What if I pay a non-resident supplier?

Flag them as non-resident once and pick the service type; the withholding rate is computed on every payment to them and written into its journal, and the monthly report totals what was withheld.

Is the return in the official form's layout?

Yes, the boxes in their order on ZATCA's form, so you copy the figures to the portal as you see them. What has no box — such as out-of-scope sales — is shown as a memo, never hidden.
