This feature comes with certain plans. If it is not in your menu, it is not in your business's plan.

Prepare the item

A recipe belongs to an item of one of two types in Products & services:
  • Assembly: made in advance with a build and held in stock. Tick Stocked product (quantities and cost are tracked) on it.
  • Kit: never built or stocked. When you sell one, its components leave the warehouse.
Components are usually a Raw material or a Product. Labour and power do not go in the recipe: add them as overheads on the build.

Write the recipe

In the side menu choose Manufacturing. The Composite products page opens on the Bills of material tab. Press New bill of material and fill in:
  • Product: the assembly or kit.
  • Code: created for you if left blank.
  • Output: the quantity this recipe makes.
  • Component and its quantity in the component's base unit.
  • Waste: a percentage lost. For example, 5 adds 5% to the quantity.
Add rows with Line and press Save.
The system refuses a product that contains itself, even through another product, with the message A product cannot contain itself.

Read the cost and margin

Press the recipe's row. The window shows each component at its current stock cost, the Unit cost, then the Sale price, Expected margin and Margin %. These figures are estimates that move with component costs. The actual cost is worked out when you build.

Change the recipe when needed

Press Edit in the table or in the recipe window. The Product cannot be changed after saving. An edit applies only to new builds: existing builds keep their own copy of the components.
