Add a product or service

Each item carries its own price and tax, so writing an invoice is just picking it. If it is stocked, its quantity and cost are tracked for you.

4 min read 4 steps Open this screen in Books

Open the form and choose the type

In the side menu choose Products & services, then New item. Set the Type (1):

  • Product: goods you sell or buy.
  • Service: work you provide, with no stock.
  • Raw material: bought and used up in manufacturing, and not offered on sales invoices.
  • Assembly and Kit: items made up of other items.
Open the form and choose the type

Enter the name, price and tax

The required field is the Arabic name. SKU is generated if you leave it empty.

  • Unit: a piece, a kilo and so on. The + button beside it adds a new unit.
  • Sale price (2): fills in when you pick the item on an invoice.
  • Sales tax: the rate charged on the line.

Price and tax are defaults, and you can change them on any invoice.

Decide whether it is stocked

Turn on Stocked product (quantities and cost are tracked) (3) if you want to know how much you hold. A stocked product records quantity and cost on every sale and purchase. An unstocked one simply posts as revenue or expense. Keep Sold on so it shows on invoices, and Purchased so it shows on supplier bills.
A stocked item that still holds a balance cannot be switched to unstocked, because its quantity would be lost. Bring the balance to zero first if you need to.

Save, and add detail if you need it

Press Save, and the item can be found on an invoice by name, SKU or barcode. The bottom of the form has optional sections:

  • Ledger accounts (optional): leave them empty to use the default accounts.
  • Pricing options: for items sold by period or by count.
  • Units of measure: to sell or buy by the carton, for example. These are added after the item is first saved.
