Adjust stock: damage, shortage or surplus

Correct one item's quantity after damage, loss or a surplus, and the journal posts itself.

This feature comes with certain plans. If it is not in your menu, it is not in your business's plan.

Open the adjustment

In Inventory press Stock adjustment, button 2 in the picture. If you are counting a whole shelf, use New count instead, because a count compares all the items at once.
Open the adjustment

Enter the change

Pick the item, then type in Quantity change a positive number to add or a negative one to remove, such as -5 for five damaged units. Set the Date and Warehouse, and write the reason in Memo.
Leave Unit cost blank. When stock goes down, the cost comes from your costing method, which is why the screen calls the figure an estimate. When stock goes up, the goods come in at the item's current cost.
Enter the change

Check the counter account and save

The Counter account starts on Inventory shrinkage. Change it if the difference is drawings or another expense, such as a gift to a customer. The table The entry this will post shows the effect before you save. Press Save: the quantity changes and the journal posts straight away.

An adjustment has no draft stage and no undo button. To correct a mistake, record an opposite adjustment for the same quantity on the same account.
