Open the unmatched lines
On the account's card press Statement, open the Statement lines tab and choose Unmatched. Press any line to open it.
Match it to an existing entry
Under Matching entries in your books you will find entries with the same amount within 10 days either side. If one of them is this movement, press Match beside it. Nothing changes in your books: you are only linking the line to an existing entry.
Create the entry if it is not recorded
Bank charges, for example, are not in your books until you see them on the statement. Under Or create the entry from this line choose the kind:
- Journal (1): for expenses and income, with a Counter account and Tax. The statement amount counts as including VAT, which is split out of it.
- Receipt or Payment: for a customer or supplier, applied to their oldest invoices first.
- Transfer: when money moved between two of your banks.
| Account | Debit | Credit |
|---|---|---|
| Telecom and internet | 100.00 | |
| Input VAT | 15.00 | |
| Bank | 115.00 |
If the amount differs or the date is far off
Type a journal number or memo in the search box, or set dates, and press Search. The search covers 180 days either side and any amount, and an entry that differs carries a different amount badge (1). Tick one or several entries, and add other statement lines if the payment came in parts. The Difference appears, so choose an Account for the difference (2), such as bank charges, and press the match button.
The difference does not vanish. It is posted as an entry on the account you choose, so your books still equal what the bank holds.
Correct a wrong match
Choose Matched, open the line and press Unmatch. If the entry was created from this line it is reversed with it. An entry that already existed stays as it was.
A line inside a closed reconciliation cannot be changed. Reopen the reconciliation first, then unmatch it.
