Bank rules for lines that repeat

Teach Books that «charges» means bank charges, and it prepares the account and VAT on every line that repeats.

Create a new rule

On the Banking page open the Rules tab, press New rule, and give it a Name you will recognise.

Say when the rule applies

Choose the Field (Description or Reference) and the Match (contains, starts with or equals), then type the Text (1) as the bank prints it. Capital letters make no difference. You can limit the rule to one Direction, and to one Bank account.
Say when the rule applies

Say what the rule suggests

Choose the Counter account (2), the account the line belongs to, such as bank charges. Choose the Tax if the line includes it, then press Save.

Apply the rule to your lines

Rules run by themselves on every statement you import after creating them. For lines already there, open the account and press Apply rules. When you open a line, the account and VAT are already filled in, with Suggested by rule underneath. Check them and press Create & match.
A rule suggests, it does not post. No entry is recorded until you press Create & match yourself. If two rules fit the same line, the older one wins.
